Living Room in Full View

I provided bits and pieces of my living room, now I am showing you the full view.  What I love most about the room is the checkerboard floor.  I removed old green carpeting and found a better quality plywood underneath (although I was hoping for hardwood floors).  Since there were no splinters or rough spots, I decided to paint it. I painted the outside perimeter black and then painted the middle of the floor white and then added the black squares.

Of course, the black and white dictated the color scheme for the rest of the room.  I love ironstone, white bird houses, vintage signs, and anything with a nice graphic quality.  I have a mixture of Ikea, flea market and Ethan Allen furniture.  The bookcases were built by my father and have followed me to every home.  I hope you enjoy the tour...

Elkhorn Shopping

I spent a good part of yesterday shopping at the Elkhorn Flea Market. It was a beautiful day, so the vendors were out in full force - as well as the shoppers.  I managed to find some items for our Etsy shop.  Here is a preview of a few...

Fun vintage signs and a cute magazine holder.

A close up...

A vintage bingo cage, hangers, sweet green bowls
and an instant collection of skate keys.

A close up...

And two shabby red stools for my collection.

Typography

Many of us love the graphic quality of typography, so we intently seek out items with letters, numbers and words.  There are many choices: signs, game pieces, advertising tins, pictures, wooden boxes, single letters and numbers, etc.  Add a bit of spark and style to your home by making room on your shelves and/or walls to display some typography - whether it be vintage or modern.  Maybe it's time to start a new collection...

More Black and White

The graphic quality of black and white creates visual impact as in the photos below.  The text and numbers provide an interesting simplicity and enhance any decorating scheme.

More Studies in Black and White

You just can't go wrong combining black and white in your decorating schemes.  Include metal, wood, paper, fabric and glass to add texture and interest.
